Day 1: Transfer To Longido For Afternoon Walking Safari
Pick up from the hotel in Arusha and drive to Longido for about 2 hours. Transfer to Longido village for a walking safari where you will be escorted with a Maasai warrior. Walk from bomas of OI Tepesi to spot variety of bird species including red and yellow Barbet, masked weaver, silver bill and secretary bird. Come across tree and plant species which are used for food and medicine. Return to the village for a picnic lunch. Proceed with the visit to Maasai bomas to learn about Maasai culture and tradition. Transfer to the campsite for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Walking Safari In The Maasai Plains
Have breakfast and proceed with exploring the beautiful Longido plains. Come across rare animal species including gerenuk, the lesser kudu and the klipspringer found in Longido only. Get a chance to see other animals like giraffes, zebras, gazelles, buffaloes, mongoose and some silver jackals. Break for lunch and proceed with the tour in Maasai bomas to see their daily lifestyle. Transfer to the campsite for an overnight stay.
Day 3: Climbing Longido and Transfer To Arusha
Start with a drive to Maasai bomas located in the green “valley of wells”. By this point, start climbing Longido mountain (2629 m) with Maasai warriors as guides. Pass along the narrow footpaths leading into a dense natural forest. Proceed with the trail to reach “dawa ya supu”(medicine soup) viewpoint after 2-3 walking hours. Trek for another 2 hours to reach the summit of the mountain. The summit provides stunning views of the landscape ahead of you including all the mountains in northern Tanzania. After some rest, descend the mountain to have a picnic lunch in Longido. Proceed with the drive back to Arusha.
